I absolutely love climbing and really enjoy the sport ever since my Mom signed me up for summer camp at Berkeley Ironworks when I was about seven years old. I love to learn new things, to push myself and test my limits. I also like how climbing helps me to focus clearly, and how it gives me a peaceful, yet powerful energy. This is something I don’t get from other sports that I also love, like snowboarding, hiking or swimming. Obviously, I was meant to climb.
In the Fall of 2005, Scot asked if I would be interested in joining the Zero Gravity team. I was excited by his invitation and immediately said yes before asking my parents. Thankfully, they are supportive. Being part of a great team of climbers has pushed me to work harder to be a better and stronger climber, and to enjoy that special view from the top. Scot is always supportive and is especially great at showing me what was particularly special about a climb before I fell or helping me to fully appreciate my achievements. As a member of Zero Gravity, I began competing in 2006 and realized many highs and lows. Although I was nervous before my very first competition and still get a little nervous today, everything fades away when I reach for that first handhold. Then I am in a familiar place and feel happy all over.
I will be going to Nationals for the first time, this year. This has been a very good year for me, with many second place finishes, including at Divisionals. I am really excited about making the trip to Ann Arbor with my friends and seeing everyone have a great comp.
